Summer 2017 Reading List

Summer Reading Packet - AP Language and Composition, Grade 11

IB Summer Assignments

English I:  Grade 9/ Freshmen students will prepare to transition to Common Core Standards using the Prentice Hall Elements of Language & Elements of Literature as primary texts. Students will enhance their reading, writing, listening & speaking skills integrating technology. Students will learn close reading strategies and practice the writing process as they analyze, interpret, and respond to various genres using various types of writing (persuasive, expository, narrative, poetry, research writing)

English II: Upon successful completion of English I, Grade 10/Sophomore students will prepare to transition to Common Core Standards using the Prentice Hall Elements of Language & Elements of Literature as primary texts. Students will enhance their reading, writing, listening & speaking skills integrating technology. Students will learn close reading strategies and practice the writing process as they analyze, interpret, and respond to various genres using various types of writing (persuasive, expository, narrative, poetry, research writing)

English I/English II Honors: Grade 9-10 students will have the opportunity to prepare for Advanced Placement English courses in English I and/or English II Honors courses. Students participating in Honors courses will experience an accelerated curriculum with advanced readings in literature and write critically and creatively in response to readings and personal experiences. 

English III: Grade 11/Juniors will prepare for college with vocabulary development and test-taking techniques. They will have opportunities to practice advanced language skills using various genres of literature from various time periods.

English IV/English IV College Readiness: Grade 12/Senior course places an emphasis on language and composition skills. Students will prepare for college with vocabulary development and test-taking techniques. Students will also participate in a major writing project.
