How is IB different from AP?

Both IB and AP offer rigorous courses and are excellent preparation for college; however, students learn differently within the courses. AP courses focus on the student's area(s) of strength, while IB is a comprehensive curriculum that requires the student to take courses in all subjects and is centered on a global perspective. AP courses are taught individually, whereas IB is an interdisciplinary, international program of study focused on the student.

How will Jones High's lower grades support the IBDP?

JHS has one of the only two MYP programs in the district. MYP teachers have gone through various types of IB subject specific training. Training of MYP teachers will continue in order to support curriculum and skills alignment. JHS core teachers, in conjunction with the IB coordinator and subject area coaches are working to realigned the district mandated curriculum and skills to support the IB programme. Students will be presented with various types of assessments that will prepare them for not only the state mandated assessments, but also for the IB assessments they will take at the end of their DP courses. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is the preparatory path for the IB Diploma Programme.
